Let’s face the sad truth, skin aging cannot be stopped. There’s a comforting piece of information, though. We are able to delay and camouflage the symptoms of growing older. How? You just need to know the causes of the unwanted process and then start off the right skin care. How to delay skin aging?

In what way does skin age?

Skin aging is a natural process that we have a very little impact on. It takes place on two levels:

  1. Intrinsic skin aging (chronological aging) is connected with the passing time and genetically determined.
  2. Extrinsic skin aging (photoaging) is caused by external factors like UV radiation, environmental pollution, unhealthy lifestyle.

The reduction of fat tissue, sebum and sweat glands as well as collagen and elastin fibers occurs during the aging process. The skin cell division is slower, the skin loses its ability to repair, becomes thin and prone to damage. The production of hyaluronic acid falls. Consequently, wrinkles and dark under-eye circles appear, the skin looks dull and feels dry.

How to delay skin aging process?

1. Antiaging lifestyle! Habits that will help you reduce the effect of aging process.

Make sure you drink at least 1,5 l of water per day, eat a healthy diet high in fresh fruit and vegetables, and cut down on sugar, fast food, cigarettes and fats. Other rules you must follow include getting enough sleep, avoiding stressful situations, protecting skin from solar radiation and free radicals, as well as having meals and taking supplements rich in antioxidants.

2. Skin care, that is using products tailored to your age and skin type.

If you turned 25, your skin care arsenal must include moisturising and sun-protection cosmetics. In about 10 years you will spot first expression lines. This will be the time to start applying skin firming treatments, eye creams and hyaluronic acid-infused products. In your fifties think about antioxidant-based cosmetics, retinoids and ingredients that repair the lipid layer and improve skin’s density.

3. Move! Face massage and exercising to tone up the muscles.

You can massage the face while applying products during nighttime skin care routine. Try a soft brush, jade roller or your fingers! Before using the tools, though, you’ll need to apply a product so that your massaging tool slides effortlessly across the face during the massage. A moisturizer or a natural oil going with your skin type will do.
