There is probably no woman that wouldn’t have to struggle with major or minor problems related to blackheads. They often appear on the nose, fewer on the chin or the forehead. Luckily, there are methods to combat enlarged pores. Let’s check how to get rid of them once and for all!
Regardless of the condition, age, cosmetics, and gender, our skin is like a net. The whole surface has fairly evenly distributed holes, which are the mouth of sebaceous and sweat glands. They are not just as visible everywhere, they can also have different sizes. These are very important channels because they provide the skin with proper functioning. Thanks to them, it is possible to circulate air and water, as well as absorb nutrients.
Your face has pores
Without a doubt, the face is the largest cluster of pores which number exceeds 20 thousand. Nature has designed them to constringe and expand. In the summer, they are naturally enlarged to balance the temperature of our body and prevent overheating. We sweat much more, but our sebaceous glands also work at higher speeds. We can complain that makes our face shiny, but it is necessary to regulate the body temperature while preventing the loss of water.
Why do we have excessively enlarged pores?
As a result of various types of hormonal imbalance, inappropriate care, our sebaceous glands may work improperly. Thus, they produce an excessive amount of sebum, and we can observe enlarged pores in which pollutants mixed with excess sebum are collected. It does not look good and it’s not healthy.
Enlarged pores are not just a problem that affects people with oily or acne-prone skin. There are several situations in which one can talk about the increased production of sebum. Even if we have a very dry complexion, our sebaceous glands get a signal that they need to produce more sebum to moisturize and protect it.
The causes of blackheads may vary:
- adverse hormonal changes,
- use of comedogenic cosmetics,
- changing care habits,
- frequent change of cosmetics,
- environment pollution,
- lack of proper skin hygiene.
Blackheads – what else do you know about them?
Blocked pores are comedones, although they are also called blackheads. They appear when the glands in the skin are blocked by tallow, dead epidermis and various kinds of impurities. There are two types of blackheads:
- open blackheads – not completely blocked, so that bacteria have a place to accumulate in, making comedones appear in the form of black spots;
- closed blackheads – completely blocked pores that resemble a white rash; they are soft, easier to remove and do not look so unsightly.
With these skin changes, which (regardless of the form) can make life miserable, you can fight in many ways. The simplest of them is the limitation of everything that causes the appearance of comedones. It is worth reviewing your cosmetics and checking whether they contain pore-clogging substances, such as mineral oils.
How to fight blackheads? Best methods to get rid of them!
Attention! There are no such methods that would completely close the pores. This is not only impossible but also unhealthy! At most, we can cleanse our skin and make sure that impurities will not accumulate in the pores or make them less visible.
Here are the best ways to overcome comedones:
1. Moisturizing. First of all, balance the moisture level of your skin, thanks to which you will reduce the secretion of sebum. Its excess can affect the appearance of blackheads. Go for creams with a light, gel-like consistency, rich in moisturizing ingredients. The fatter and richer ones can clog pores.
2. Cleansing. Do not forget about everyday hygiene, because not only care is important. Use face wash gels with skin-neutral pH that do not dehydrate the skin. Remember about a toner, which restores the proper pH level, and also removes the remains of make-up and impurities that may persist in the pores.
3. Exfoliation. Do not avoid scrubs. Reach for a good exfoliating scrub at least once a week to get rid of the excess callous epidermis and to cleanse the pores. Choose rather fine scrubs or use AHA acids to avoid irritating your skin unnecessarily.
4. Masks. Use astringent masks regularly. The best ones are enriched with green or black clay. You can buy a ready-made mask or make it yourself from natural clay mixed with water. A perfect mask for blackheads is also the one with 3-4 tablets of aspirin dissolved in buttermilk. Repeat these treatments at least 2-3 times a week.
5. Removal of blackheads. Apply patches for blackheads, e.g. with activated charcoal. Thanks to them, you can easily remove impurities from the pores. You can also try to make homemade cleansing patches – it is enough to soak thin pieces of tissue in egg white.
What to avoid to get rid of blackheads or how to conceal them?
- Under no circumstances pop up pimples!
- Do not use brightening cosmetics, because they emphasize blackheads.
- Do not use cosmetics with silicone, butter, or mineral oils.
- Use a mattifying powder that will hide the imperfections.
- Do not overdo with a UV filter – it protects the skin, but also clogs pores.
