While your body and mind are in great condition after a summer vacation, the condition of your skin and your hair is not the best. The skin is dry, thickened and lacks elasticity, the epidermis begins to peel off, the body acquires a greyish color and you notice discolorations, broken capillaries and post-sun pigmentation marks on it. In turn, the hair is dry and brittle. Fortunately, these changes can be reversed. Find out how your face and hair care should look like after the summer holiday and what care cosmetics will improve their condition. Discover ways to exfoliate the skin after summer and restore its natural glow and healthy color.
Skin exfoliation after summer
The first thing you need to do after returning from your summer holiday is to exfoliate your skin. Many women tend to avoid it being worried that their beautiful tan will disappear too quickly. What’s more, many decide to go to a tanning studio to maintain the tan even longer. Both solutions are not the best thing you can do to your skin. After a few days, the skin starts to peel off itself, as a consequence, it tans unevenly and you end up with brighter and darker spots. In addition, the rays emitted by a tanning bed cause increased dryness of the epidermis.
Furthermore, wait a week or so after returning from your holiday before apply an exfoliating scrub; you will notice that the epidermis exfoliates itself more intensely. The scrub will remove dead cells from the whole body and, as a result, it will even out the color of your tan.
Skin care cosmetics to use after summer
The cosmetics should be used twice a day: in the morning and in the evening. In the morning, choose light moisturizing lotions, and the cosmetics you use for the night should have a richer composition and thicker consistency. A good solution will be to use cosmetic oils or thick and greasy balms. It is also worth applying pharmacy cosmetics because they are dedicated to the demanding and irritated skin.
During a post-summer regenerative treatment avoid hot baths, and if you cannot resist them, pour a handful of Dead Sea salt into the water and pour a little special bath oil. The salt will soften the skin and the oil will moisturize it.
Post-summer hair care
UV rays weaken hair condition because they open up the scales and destroy the proteins in their cortical layer. As a result, the hair becomes brittle and weak. To improve the hair’s condition and appearance, apply an intensive mask with nutrients at least once a week. For a better effect, you can wrap your head with a plastic shower cap and a towel, thanks to which the cosmetic ingredients will penetrate deeper. In the case of very damaged hair, a hair sauna at the salon will be indicated. The treatment consists in applying a regenerating preparation to the hair, which, due to the hot steam emitted by a special device, will penetrate into the hair and repair any damage.
Post-summer skin care

Facial skin also needs exfoliation. If it is thick and resistant to irritation, coarse peels may be used, however, if it is sensitive, it should be treated with the use of enzyme peels. In addition, a moisturizing cream adapted to the skin type should be used on a daily basis, and night cream must be applied every night before bedtime. Only the right night cream will provide a sufficient dose of nutrients to a skin that’s been exposed to a scorching sun radiation and strong wind. It is also worth recommending moisturizing and nourishing masks, which can be done even every 2-3 days after returning home from holidays.
Post-summer face care – professional methods
If the at-home facial care treatment turns out to be insufficient, you can seek professional help. Dermatologists offer many treatments that will bring relief to sun-dried skin. One of them is mesotherapy, which involves injecting a vitamin preparation under the skin.
There are many varieties of this treatment, including mesotherapy with the use of NCTF and needleless mesotherapy. NCTF is a modern complex of vitamins, microelements, peptides and amino acids. In turn, needle-free mesotherapy consists in inserting a vitamin complex deep under the skin with the help of electric current.
Removing skin discolorations after summer

The direct cause of the discoloration is exposure to the sun, and indirect – the use of hormonal medicine, or antibiotics, pregnancy, and some cosmetics; the preservatives, dyes, and fats contained in them. Under the influence of UV radiation, they become toxic to the skin and leave dark spots on its surface. Thus, discoloration occurs when we tan during hormonal treatment, taking certain medications, pregnancy and the use of certain cosmetics.
To get rid of discoloration, you can undergo home bleaching therapy. Brightening properties are provided by creams with arbutine, lipoic acid, azelaic or phyto acid; all are available at the drugstore. These types of cosmetics have a gentle exfoliating effect that inhibits the activity of cells producing skin pigment (melanocytes) and increases disappearance of the discoloration. The effects are visible only if the brightening creams are used regularly for several consecutive months. At the same time, the sun must be avoided, because under its influence discoloration can be renewed.

Home remedies for removing skin discolorations are not as effective as treatments done by a dermatologist, especially:
- a glycopeel with the addition of kojic acid,
- almond peel, most often in combination with pioglycolic acid,
- yellow peel with retinoic acid, azelaic and kojic acid,
- easy peel, i.e. peeling with the use of trichloroacetic acid,
- microdermabrasion, i.e. mechanical exfoliation of the epidermis,
- treatments with the use of a laser or IPL (Intensive Pulse Light).
For even better results, it is recommended that you repeat each of these treatments several times.
